Cowboy Star is celebrated for its meticulously sourced steaks, with the butcher shop on-site allowing you to take home their premium cuts of meat. Try the 8 oz. Filet Mignon, a tender morsel of natural Angus that melts in your mouth, or indulge in the imposing 40 oz. Porterhouse for Two, perfectly aged and grilled to perfection. Each steak reflects the passion and expertise of the kitchen, highlighted by the smoky notes from their woodfire grill.

But the menu offers more than just steaks. Don’t miss out on the Pan Roasted Lamb Chops, served with Moroccan cous cous and a delightful yogurt mint demiglace, or the Sauteed Scallops, that come with a refreshing preserved Meyer lemon beurre blanc. For those looking for a vibrant starter, the CStar Caesar and the Wedge Salad do not disappoint, brimming with fresh ingredients and bold flavors.

The customer reviews speak volumes of the overall experience. Jacob Goldshtein raves, “the food was actually insane,” particularly praising the dry aged boneless ribeye. Others, like Thalia Cedar, commend not just the food but the warm, welcoming vibe influenced by the exceptional staff – Kristal, in particular, makes guests feel right at home. Rob Frey echoes this sentiment, remarking on how their dining experience exceeded all expectations, including service tailored to fit a group atmosphere.

Another highlight mentioned by diners is the impressive cocktail menu, featuring expertly crafted classics like the Old Fashioned. Reviewers have found enjoyment not only in the entrees but also in the thoughtful pairing of drinks alongside the meals. The lively bar atmosphere, expertly handled by bartenders like Arturo and Victor, adds an extra spark to the culinary adventure.

Don’t have enough good things to say about Cowboy star, incredible ambiance, fantastic service and the food was actually insane. Got the dry aged boneless ribeye and it was probably the best steak I’ve ever had in a restaurant. The cook was perfect, the crust was mythical and the endless stream of martinis that came behind it made the night unforgettable. Would definitely go back and come hungry.

Cowboy Star is hands down one of the best dining experiences in San Diego! The food is consistently incredible, and the service is just as amazing. From the moment you walk in, Kristal at the front makes you feel genuinely welcomed and taken care of — she remembers you and greets you with such warmth every time. Arturo and Victor behind the bar are fantastic — not only are they great at what they do, but they’re also so personable and friendly, which really adds to the overall vibe. Manager Tony also makes a point to check in and ensure everything is going smoothly, which shows how much the team cares. Truly a place where the staff goes above and beyond. Highly recommend for a night out, special occasion, or just a really good meal.

We brought our team to Cowboy Star for a group outing, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! The food was phenomenal, the atmosphere was spot-on, and the service exceeded all expectations. Every team member left full and happy — not just from the delicious dishes, but from the genuine hospitality we received from start to finish. A huge thank you to Veronica, our server, who was incredibly attentive and on top of every order with grace and a smile. Also, big shout-outs to Malea and Rachel for helping coordinate all the details behind the scenes — your efforts didn’t go unnoticed. We felt welcomed and taken care of the entire evening. We’ll definitely be visiting again soon!

Had an amazing time at Cowboy Star! The food was spot on — my wife’s Old Fashioned was made just right, the oysters were super fresh, and the cowboy ribeye was cooked perfectly. We grabbed seats at the bar on a busy Friday night and Cassandra took great care of us. She was super professional, really attentive, and somehow kept everything running smoothly while juggling a packed bar. Great food, great service, great vibe — we’ll definitely be back!

Wow what an incredible evening! Amazing food and even better service. We sat at the bar in front of the dessert station and we had dinner and a show. It was great to see the desserts be made as we were sitting there. For appetizers we ordered the steak tartare and I was blown away at how good it was! It really was amazing. I ordered the 18oz cowboy ribeye cut for dinner and WOW! 35 days dry aged and you could totally tell! We got a side of Mac and cheese that we loved as well. I ordered a mocktail on the menu (spicy Moscow mule) and loved that as well! Cannot go wrong here!

My goodness! What a great experience! Service was outstanding and the food was beyond great. The flank steak of all things was phenomenal. The white sea bass was fresh and cooked perfectly. The banana "pudding" dessert was incredible. Save room for that!

Here is a list of things that make me go YEEHAW: - Reflecting back on the night of my engagement - Cowboy Star’s steaks - A rootin’ tootin’ good time Cowboy Star’s name is inspired by the charm of classic Western movies and their ‘cowboy [movie] stars.’ Without knowing more about Cowboy Star, one might consider: “Wow, Justin, why did you bring your fiancée to a cowboy-themed restaurant where some guy in a tiny cowboy hat calls you Hoss and grits his teeth every time he’s forced to say ‘I reckon’?” I didn’t! Cowboy Star pulls it off in a classy, effortless way. Nothing is TOO cowboy. Instead of Wild Wild West, it’s probably just Wild West. Just one wild. Anyway, this place is perfect to celebrate a milestone in your life. For us, it was our engagement, but for you, maybe it’s an anniversary, a regular date, or you’re just celebrating how much you like steak. And really, you should. Cowboy Star has an in-house butcher, so you’re getting fresh cuts here. In my opinion, that makes it the best steakhouse in San Diego. It doesn’t need the frills of some of the other steakhouses. The beef speaks for itself. My brand new fiancée and I got appetizer of French onion soup and beef tartare. The soup was very good. The beef tartare came with amazing bread and both were so fresh. We also both got steak, which was the (cowboy) star of the show. I’m sorry for the previous sentence. I felt like I had to. The drinks were top notch too. And our server did our best to make the evening special, which made the experience stand out. Did he bring us champagne? Yes. Did he wish us a happy anniversary? Also yes. Technically, it was the year-zero anniversary of our engagement, so he wasn’t 100% wrong. The attempt was there. Anyway, I’d highly recommend Cowboy Star. The booths are large, the steaks are tasty, and the yeehaws are all in your head.

Incredibly the best happy hour 3-6 pm Mon-Fri. My go to the old fashions are superb with some steak and fries or sliders. Wireless chargers on bar top and the best service in town. Full menu available at 5 pm. Cowboy Star never disappoints.
